architecture + design
The Count House project reimagines a former tin mining site within the Cornish Mining UNESCO World Heritage landscape as a contemporary family home. After years of failed planning attempts, the design adopts a sensitive, research-led approach that preserves and restores historic structures while integrating new architecture. Unsympathetic alterations are removed, reinstating original materials and forms, with the Count House and forge adapted into living spaces. A lightweight link connects these to a new accommodation block embedded in the terrain, balancing heritage, conservation, modern living, and landscape integration.
